You Just Have to Do It Nervous
Anita Endsley is a singer, actor, producer, vocal coach, entertainment manager, musician and has recently added writer to her list of to-done’s. You heard me. Not to-do’s. DONE. She recently published a fiction series and an encyclopedic reference book for musical theatre students & teachers. If you want to go from a to-do to a to-done, check out my conversation with Anita.
Struggling with the that big project?
Anita Endsley talks us through how to get it done. Be sure to listen for when she talks about ‘dependable range’. She’s talking about vocalists here, but I felt it resonate with ALL of my creative projects. What is my dependable range — that I can always go back to?
For years it was a 500 word article. If you need an article quick, I can sit down and bam, it comes out 500 words every time. I’ve since added scripts — video and live events — I can stop, drop and crank out a script pretty dependably. How does knowing that dependable range help me? I know what to say yes to. I know how much time it will take me. I know how to schedule it with other projects, and I know what to charge.
How does that apply to you and your projects? What is the dependable range for you — tasks that you complete with ease? What takes more time? More creativity? More focus?
Knowing your dependable range is like knowing your zone of genius. When you know your core, you can expand from there but you need to know what it takes. Just like in singing. I can sing the F below middle C and the C the octave up from middle C. But that D the octave up? Better warm-up.
